Etsimme

Etsimme is the first-person plural present indicative form of the Finnish verb etsiä, meaning "to search" or "to seek." It denotes an action performed by the speaker together with others. The form is built from the verb stem etsi- plus the suffix -mme, which marks the first-person plural.

In Finnish, verbs are conjugated for person and number, so etsime (we search) is used when the speaker includes at least one other person. The word is commonly used in everyday language to express ongoing or planned searching, such as in statements about looking for something or someone. For example: "Etsimme uutta asuntoa" (We are looking for a new apartment) or "Etsimme mahdollisuuksia yhteistyöhön" (We are seeking opportunities for collaboration).

Etsimme can also appear in public notices, advertisements, or job postings as the starting verb form of a larger sentence, for instance "Etsimme osaajia" (We are seeking skilled workers). As a standard finite verb, etsime follows regular Finnish verb patterns, and its meaning is entirely determined by context within the sentence.

For language learners, recognizing etsi- as the verb stem and -mme as the first-person plural ending helps in forming related forms and understanding conjugation. The term itself functions as a normal verb form rather than as a standalone noun or fixed expression.
