Eskatologia

Eskatologia is a branch of theology and philosophy concerned with the study of final events, the ultimate destiny of humanity, and the end of the world. The term originates from the Greek words eschatos, meaning "last," and logos, meaning "study" or "discourse." It addresses questions about the nature of death, the afterlife, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and the ultimate fate of the universe.

Different religions and philosophical systems have developed their own distinct eschatological beliefs. In Abrahamic religions, such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, eschatology often involves a messianic age, a divine judgment, and a future state of reward or punishment. Christian eschatology, for instance, includes concepts like the Second Coming of Christ, the rapture, the tribulation, and the establishment of God's kingdom. Islamic eschatology details events leading up to the Day of Judgment, the resurrection, and the afterlife in paradise or hell.

In contrast, some Eastern religions and philosophies offer different perspectives. Buddhist eschatology, for example, focuses on the cycle of rebirth (samsara) and the ultimate goal of achieving nirvana, a state of liberation from suffering and the cycle of existence, rather than a singular end of the world event. Philosophical eschatology might explore the meaning of human existence in the face of mortality and the potential for human progress or decline on a cosmic scale. These beliefs and discussions shape a community's understanding of life, death, and their place in the grand scheme of things.
