It is most commonly used in the context of mathematics, particularly in calculus, to describe points where a function is not continuous. A function is considered continuous at a point if its graph can be drawn without lifting the pen. If there is a break, jump, or hole in the graph at a specific point, that point is an epäjatkuvuuskohta.

There are several types of epäjatkuvuuskohtia.
