Entre-Deux-Mers is a wine region in Bordeaux, France, located in the Gironde department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The name refers to the area between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, upstream from their confluence forming the Gironde estuary. The region includes an AOC dedicated to white wines, known as Entre-Deux-Mers, within the broader Bordeaux appellation system.

Grapes and wines

The Entre-Deux-Mers AOC produces white wines only. The principal grape is Sauvignon Blanc, commonly blended with Sémillon and Muscadelle. Styles are predominantly dry and fresh, with high acidity and aromas of citrus, green apple, and herbs. Most wines are intended for early drinking, though some examples show added complexity through lees aging or subtle oak influence.

Terroir and climate

Vineyards in the region span diverse soils, including limestone, clay, and gravel, with alluvial soils near the rivers. The climate is maritime, moderated by the Gironde estuary, which yields milder winters and warm, relatively dry summers. This combination supports relatively early harvests and wines that emphasize brightness and aromaticity.

Wine production and use

The Entre-Deux-Mers AOC is specifically focused on white wines. The wines are widely consumed as aperitifs or with seafood, poultry, and salads. They are produced for both domestic consumption and export, and are regarded as a value-oriented component of the Bordeaux white portfolio.
