Enki, known as Ea in Akkadian, is a major Mesopotamian god associated with water, wisdom, magic, crafts, and creation. He is traditionally conceived as residing in the Abzu, the freshwater underground ocean, where he is a source of life-giving waters and prime mover of much early Mesopotamian civilization. As a counselor to the gods and a benefactor of humanity, Enki is often portrayed as a clever and compassionate figure who uses knowledge and cunning to avert crises.
