Endurancetestaus

Endurancetestaus, often translated as endurance testing, is a type of performance testing that evaluates how a system behaves under prolonged operation. The goal is to identify issues that only manifest after extended use, such as memory leaks, resource depletion, performance degradation, or latent failures.

In software engineering, endurance testing involves running a realistic workload model continuously over an extended period, ranging from several hours to days or weeks, while monitoring system metrics. This helps assess stability, reliability, and the ability to maintain acceptable response times under sustained load. The approach is also used in hardware reliability assessments, embedded systems validation, and, more broadly, in reliability engineering to study long-term behavior under continuous use.

Typical methodology includes defining a realistic workload, setting the duration, establishing exit criteria, and employing monitoring tooling to track metrics such as CPU and memory usage, disk I/O, network activity, energy consumption, error rates, and latency. A soak test is a common variant that subjects the system to normal operating conditions for the entire duration to observe resource consumption and performance drift.

Outcomes of endurancetestaus can include discovery of memory leaks, resource fragmentation, degradation in service levels, and increased failure probabilities over time. Limitations include the time and cost required, potential gaps if the workload model is not representative, and the need for specialized environments to run long-duration tests.
