Eläinkloonaamisella, or animal cloning, is the process of creating genetically identical copies of an animal. This is achieved through a technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). In SCNT, the nucleus from a somatic cell (any cell in the body other than a sperm or egg cell) is transferred into an egg cell that has had its own nucleus removed. The reconstructed egg is then stimulated to divide and develop into an embryo, which is subsequently implanted into a surrogate mother.
