Elipsou is a fictional archipelago created for worldbuilding and speculative fiction. In its core lore, it lies in the southern sea of a continental setting called Nadelia and comprises five main islands with numerous islets and reefs connected by shallow channels and tidal passages.

Etymology and usage: The name comes from the Elipsouan language, in which elipsou means “twilight waters.” The term is used to describe the archipelago’s luminous lagoons, shifting tides, and the navigational knowledge associated with its coastal communities.

Geography and ecology: The five principal islands are Aroli, Basora, Cylis, Dren, and Eost, along with roughly thirty smaller isles. The climate ranges from tropical to subtropical, with a pronounced wet season. Reefs, mangroves, and cloud forests shelter a mix of endemic birds, coastal reptiles, and reef fishes, supporting a vibrant small-scale fishery and diverse coastal ecosystems.

Society and economy: The estimated population is around 60,000. Languages include Elipsouan (official) and a widely spoken lingua franca. Governance operates as a decentralized council system, with each island maintaining local councils aligned under a regional federation. The economy centers on traditional fishing, shipbuilding, seaweed farming, and growing ecotourism.

History and culture: Settlement began in the early medieval period by seafaring communities, followed by a period of external rule under a regional empire. Autonomy was achieved in the 18th century, with modern governance emphasizing sustainable use of marine resources. Cultural life features a spring festival known as the Luma of the Tide, music using shell horns and carved wooden instruments, and distinctive woven crafts.
