Elimenic

Elimenic is a constructed language developed for speculative fiction and worldbuilding. It is presented as the native tongue of the inhabitants of the Archipelago of Elimen in the fictional world of the Aion series. The language was designed to reflect aspects of the culture, such as communal decision making and ritual practice, through its phonology, morphology, and expressive possibilities.

Phonology and writing are designed to feel distinct yet approachable. Elimenic has five vowels (a e i o u) with limited vowel harmony affecting suffix vowels. It features about 22 consonants, including p, b, t, d, k, g, m, n, s, z, ʃ, h, and rhotics. Stress typically falls on the penultimate syllable. The language is commonly written in a Latin-based alphabet with diacritics to indicate vowel length and certain phonemic distinctions; a ceremonial script appears in lore and is described as a separate stylistic form.

Morphology and syntax: Elimenic is described as an agglutinative language with a subject–object–verb (SOV) base order. Nouns inflect for number and case, using suffixes for nominative, accusative, and dative roles. Verbs encode aspect, mood, and evidentiality through affixes and enclitics, with tense conveyed through aspect markers rather than a strict tense system. Adjectives follow nouns and generally agree in number. The language uses postpositions rather than prepositions.

Usage and status: As a constructed language, Elimenic appears primarily in novels, worldbuilding materials, and fan projects. It maintains a relatively small canonical lexicon, supplemented by fan dictionaries and cross-media glossaries that expand alongside related works.
