ElementscrollTooptions

ElementscrollTooptions refers to the options object used with the DOM Element.scrollTo method to control scrolling inside a scrollable element. In standard web terminology, the corresponding interface is ScrollToOptions, and elementscrollTooptions describes the same concept as applied to an individual element rather than the window.

The ScrollToOptions object provides three properties. left and top specify the target scrollLeft and scrollTop positions within the element’s content, effectively determining the final scroll position. behavior is optional and can be "auto" (default) or "smooth", indicating whether the scrolling should occur instantly or with a smooth animation. If either left or top is omitted, only the specified axis will change, while the other remains as is.

Element.scrollTo supports two call patterns. You can pass numeric coordinates as element.scrollTo(left, top), or pass a single object as element.scrollTo({ left, top, behavior }). When using the object form, the values represent the final scroll positions; the browser animates toward them if behavior is "smooth". This makes elementscrollTooptions useful for precise control of an element’s visible region or for implementing custom scrolling effects.

Compatibility notes: Element.scrollTo with options is supported in modern browsers. Older browsers may not implement the options form, though numeric coordinates often remain usable. If broad compatibility is required, provide a fallback that sets scrollLeft and scrollTop directly or use feature detection before applying smooth scrolling.
