An elektromotor, commonly known as an electric motor, is a device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. This conversion is typically achieved through the interaction of magnetic fields. The basic principle of operation for most electric motors involves an armature, which is a rotating component, and a stator, which is a stationary component. When an electric current flows through coils in the armature, it generates a magnetic field. This magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field produced by the stator, creating a force that causes the armature to rotate. This rotational motion is then transferred to the desired mechanism.

There are various types of electric motors, each suited for different purposes. Direct current (DC) motors and alternating current (AC) motors are the two primary classifications, with further subcategories like brushed, brushless, synchronous, and induction motors. The choice of motor depends on factors such as the required power, speed control, efficiency, and cost. The widespread use of electric motors has significantly contributed to technological advancement and industrialization due to their reliability, efficiency, and relatively low maintenance requirements.
