Elektromootorite, commonly known as electric motors, are devices that convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. This conversion is typically achieved through the interaction of magnetic fields and electric currents. The fundamental principle behind their operation lies in electromagnetism, where a current-carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field experiences a force.

There are several types of electric motors, broadly categorized into AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) motors. AC motors are widely used in industrial applications and household appliances due to the prevalence of AC power grids. DC motors, on the other hand, are often found in battery-powered devices, electric vehicles, and applications requiring precise speed control.

Within these categories, further distinctions exist. For instance, AC motors include induction motors, synchronous motors, and universal motors. DC motors can be brushed or brushless, with brushless DC motors gaining popularity for their efficiency, longevity, and reduced maintenance requirements.

The operation of an electric motor involves components like the stator and the rotor. The stator is the stationary part, usually containing electromagnets or permanent magnets. The rotor is the rotating part, which also typically incorporates coils of wire or magnets. When electrical current flows through the stator and rotor windings, or when interacting with permanent magnets, a rotating magnetic field is generated. This field interacts with the magnetic field of the other component, creating torque that causes the rotor to spin, thus producing mechanical work.

Electric motors are essential components in a vast array of technologies, from small appliances like fans and blenders to large industrial machinery, electric vehicles, and power tools. Their efficiency, reliability, and controllability make them a cornerstone of modern technology and industry.
