Elektrokauterrel

Elektrokauterrel, often referred to as electrocautery or diathermy, is a medical technique that uses high-frequency electrical current to cut or coagulate biological tissue. This method is widely employed in surgical procedures for its ability to control bleeding by sealing blood vessels. The electrical current generates heat, which causes the tissue to either vaporize (cutting) or denature proteins and shrink (coagulation).

There are several types of elektrokauterrel devices, including monopolar and bipolar systems. Monopolar cautery requires a single active electrode that is applied to the tissue and a return pad placed elsewhere on the patient's body to complete the electrical circuit. Bipolar cautery uses two electrodes, typically in a forceps-like instrument, with the current flowing directly between them and through a localized area of tissue. This bipolar approach offers greater precision and reduces the risk of unintended tissue damage.

The applications of elektrokauterrel are extensive, ranging from minor dermatological procedures to complex abdominal surgeries. It is particularly valuable in minimally invasive surgeries where precise control of bleeding is crucial. While generally considered safe, potential risks include burns to unintended tissues if not used correctly, electrical interference with implanted medical devices, and the production of smoke that may contain hazardous byproducts.
