Elektrogalvanizování

Elektrogalvanizování, often shortened to galvanizování, is an electrochemical process used to apply a protective zinc coating to steel or iron objects. This method involves immersing the object to be coated in an electrolyte solution containing zinc ions, and then passing an electric current through the solution. The electric current causes the zinc ions to deposit onto the surface of the object, forming a thin, uniform layer of zinc.

The primary purpose of elektrogalvanizování is to provide corrosion resistance. Zinc acts as a sacrificial anode, meaning it corrodes preferentially to the underlying steel or iron. This protects the base metal even if the coating is scratched or damaged. The thickness of the zinc layer can be controlled by adjusting the current density and the duration of the process.

Elektrogalvanizování is widely used in various industries, including automotive, construction, and manufacturing, for coating fasteners such as screws and bolts, as well as sheet metal, wire, and structural components. It is a cost-effective and efficient method for enhancing the longevity and durability of metallic products exposed to corrosive environments. The process can be carried out in different baths, such as acid or alkaline electrolytes, each offering specific advantages for different applications and substrate types.
