Elektrofiliisyyttä

Elektrofiliisyyttä, often translated as electrophilicity, is a fundamental concept in chemistry describing the tendency of a chemical species to attract and react with electrons. Species exhibiting high electrophilicity are called electrophiles, meaning they are electron-loving. These electron-deficient species are attracted to areas of high electron density, typically nucleophiles, which are electron-rich.

Electrophiles are often characterized by the presence of atoms with incomplete octets, positive charges, or polar bonds where the more electronegative atom pulls electron density away from the less electronegative atom. Common examples include Lewis acids, carbocations, and molecules with polar double or triple bonds like carbonyl compounds. The strength of an electrophile is determined by its ability to accept electrons and its inherent stability.
