Elektrijuhti

Elektrijuhti is a term used to describe a material that allows electric current to flow through it with low resistance. These materials are essential components in electrical circuits and devices, enabling the transmission and control of electricity. The primary characteristic of an elektrijuhti is its abundance of free charge carriers, typically electrons, which can move easily when an electric field is applied.

Common examples of elektrijuhti include metals such as copper, aluminum, and silver. Copper is widely favored due to its excellent conductivity and relatively low cost, making it the standard material for electrical wiring in homes and industries. Aluminum is also used, particularly in high-voltage transmission lines, because of its lighter weight and good conductivity. Silver, while the most conductive metal, is less commonly used for general wiring due to its higher price.

The ability of a material to conduct electricity is quantified by its electrical conductivity, a property that is the inverse of resistivity. A high conductivity signifies a good elektrijuhti.
