Eelysena

Eelysena is a fictional archipelago and setting used in speculative fiction and role-playing games. Located off the eastern coast of the imagined continent of Therai, it comprises seven main islands and numerous reefs and coves. The region is noted for bioluminescent marine life, white beaches, and a multilingual culture shaped by centuries of seafaring trade.

Its seven principal islands are Lysandor, Nereos, Vaylin, Thalassa, Cera, Omara, and Sileia. The archipelago lies in temperate-tropical waters with a distinct wet season and reliable maritime winds. Lysandor, the capital, sits in a natural harbor on the central island, and smaller ports line the coast.

Eelyseni civilization emerged in the Iron Age, developing boat-building and navigational techniques. Through the centuries, trade networks linked Therai with archipelagos, bringing diverse languages and customs. In 1524, local chieftains formed the Eelysena Compact, a unifying framework that enabled centralized administration. The archipelago joined the Federated Realms in the 19th century as a semi-autonomous region and retains a distinct regional identity.

Today, Eelysena is governed by a Regional Council elected by residents and an Administrator appointed by the Federated Realms. The council enacts regional laws, while the administrator represents the region in the Realms’ Senate. Lysandor hosts the council's chambers, ministries, and the National Archive.

The population is around 620,000. Languages include Eelysen, a closely related tongue to Vastrian, and Creole for trade. The economy centers on sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, pearl farming, ecotourism, and the branding of luminescent algae products. Environmental tourism highlights the bioluminescent reefs and the Glass Sea, a shallow, glassy lagoon.

Cultural life emphasizes seafaring crafts, storytelling, and music featuring water-based instruments. Festivals include the Night of Lumes, celebrating the reef's glow, and the Harbor Market, a seasonal gathering of traders. Notable sites include Eelysena Reef, the Glass Sea, and floating markets that drift between islands.
