For example, certain cloud API gateways offer edge-optimized endpoints that route traffic through a CDN or a network of edge locations. The intent is to provide lower latency for clients outside the primary region by leveraging the edge network, while presenting a single, global entry point for the API or service. Edge-optimized endpoints are typically chosen when the user base is geographically dispersed and performance is a priority; regional endpoints may be preferred when traffic is concentrated within a specific region or when localization requirements favor a regional boundary.
