EUekologiskt

EUekologiskt is a European Union certification mark for organic products. It is used to identify food products that have been produced in accordance with the European Union's organic farming regulations. To be labeled with the EUekologiskt mark, a product must meet strict standards regarding agricultural practices, animal welfare, and environmental protection. These standards are overseen by accredited control bodies.

The EUekologiskt logo, often referred to as the "Euro-leaf," consists of a stylized leaf formed by stars, set against a green background. Its introduction aimed to create a clear and recognizable symbol for organic products across all member states, simplifying the market and increasing consumer confidence in organic food. The regulations cover a wide range of aspects, including prohibition of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and adherence to high standards of animal welfare.

The certification process involves regular inspections and audits of farms and processors by independent control bodies. These bodies are supervised by national authorities and the European Commission. Products that are not produced within the EU but meet equivalent organic standards can also be authorized to carry the EUekologiskt logo, provided they have undergone a comparable inspection and certification process. The aim is to ensure a consistent level of organic integrity for consumers throughout the European Union and in markets that import EU-certified organic goods.
