EPALspecifikationen

EPAL specifications are the formal standards set by the European Pallet Association (EPAL) for the design, production, repair, marking, and testing of EPAL pallets. They are intended to ensure interchangeability and reliability of pallets used in the European logistics network and beyond. The specifications cover multiple aspects, including pallet geometry and construction, materials and workmanship, and performance criteria such as load capacity and durability. They define the arrangement and number of stringers and blocks, acceptable wood species and moisture levels, and the required joinery and manufacturing quality to ensure safe handling and long service life.

Pallets manufactured under EPAL must be produced by licensed producers and carry required markings, typically including the EPAL logo, the license number of the manufacturer, and the year of production. For international shipments, compliance with ISPM 15 heat treatment or fumigation is commonly required, and corresponding markings are added to the pallet.

EPAL also operates a pool and repair system. Pallets can be refurbished by authorized repairers and returned to service, supporting reuse and lifecycle management. The EPAL specifications are maintained by EPAL and are periodically updated to reflect advances in manufacturing, safety regulations, and material technology. The standard promotes interoperability across different suppliers, users, and regions, facilitating efficient and safe transport of goods.
