ENCODEProjekt
ENCODEProjekt, commonly referred to in English as the ENCODE project, is an international research initiative aimed at identifying all functional elements in the human genome and selected model organisms. It was developed under the auspices of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health and began in the early 2000s as a complement to the Human Genome Project. The project has progressed through multiple phases, with major public data releases around 2012–2013 and ongoing extensions to additional cell types and species. In German-language contexts, the project is often called the ENCODE-Projekt.
Scope and goals include cataloging promoters, enhancers, silencers, insulators, noncoding RNAs, transcription factor binding sites, chromatin
Methods and data production involve high-throughput experiments such as ChIP-seq for histone marks and transcription factor
Access and impact: ENCODE data are released openly through the encodeproject.org portal and related resources, enabling
