EMASn

EMASn, also known as the European Marine Strategy Framework Directive, is a policy framework established by the European Union to protect and sustainably manage the marine environment. It was adopted in 2008 and entered into force in 2010. The directive aims to achieve or maintain Good Environmental Status (GES) in the EU's marine waters by 2020, with a target of achieving a high level of protection for all marine habitats and species.

The EMASn framework is based on a series of descriptors that outline the environmental quality objectives for different marine habitats and species. These descriptors are used to monitor the status of the marine environment and to assess progress towards achieving GES. The directive also establishes a network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to conserve and protect marine biodiversity and habitats.

The implementation of EMASn is the responsibility of the Member States, which are required to develop and implement national marine strategies and action plans (NMSAPs) to achieve the objectives of the directive. The European Commission provides technical and financial support to the Member States to help them implement the directive.
