EEL2

EEL2 is a scripting language embedded in the Cockos Digital Audio Workstation REAPER. It is the second version of the EEL scripting language used in REAPER and is designed for rapid development of automations, tools, and small extensions that run inside the DAW. EEL2 scripts (.eel files) can be invoked from REAPER’s script runner or bound to actions, enabling users to control tracks, items, playback, and various project properties.

The language emphasizes a compact, fast runtime and a relatively straightforward syntax with a C-like flavor. It provides access to REAPER’s application programming interface through a library of built-in functions, allowing scripts to query and modify project state, manipulate audio data, perform loops, handle user interaction, and automate repetitive tasks. EEL2 is intended to complement Lua, another scripting language supported by REAPER; developers may choose between languages depending on the task and familiarity.

Development and maintenance are led by Cockos, with documentation and examples distributed through REAPER’s official site and community resources. EEL2 remains a core part of REAPER’s extensibility, favored by users who value a compact scripting solution with tight integration to the DAW's internals.
