EANx

EANx is a proposed extension to the European Article Numbering (EAN) system, designed to enable the inclusion of additional product data within the barcode framework while preserving compatibility with existing GTIN-based identifiers. In concept, EANx aims to enhance data richness and traceability across supply chains by allowing optional metadata to be accessed directly from the barcode or via linked digital records.

As of this writing, EANx is not an officially standardized standard within GS1 or the GTIN family.
