Dyrebruk

Dyrebruk, also known as "deer bruise," is a condition characterized by the presence of bruises or discoloration on the skin of deer, typically on their legs, neck, or shoulders. These bruises are often caused by interactions with other deer, such as during mating season or territorial disputes. The discoloration can range from red and purple to yellow or brown, and it may take several days to weeks to fade.

The exact cause of dyrebruk is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to the release of certain chemicals or enzymes from the skin cells when they are damaged. The bruises are not painful to the deer and do not appear to cause any long-term harm. In fact, they may serve as a form of communication, indicating the deer's health and fitness to potential mates or rivals.

Dyrebruk is most commonly observed in male deer, particularly during the breeding season. However, it can also occur in female deer and in deer of other species. The condition is not specific to any particular breed or subspecies of deer and can be seen in both wild and captive populations.
