Durotar

Durotar is a region in the eastern part of Kalimdor on Azeroth. It serves as the homeland of the Orcs and is the location of Orgrimmar, the capital of the Horde. The area is a dry, sun-baked savannah marked by red rock formations, sparse vegetation, and rugged canyons. Its eastern border lies along the Great Sea, while the terrain generally ranges from low plains to foothills surrounding the major settlements.

The region is named after Durotan, a prominent orc chieftain, and was established as the orcs’ homeland after their migration to Kalimdor during the wars. Over time, Durotar has seen conflicts with neighboring tribes and factions, and its leadership uses Orgrimmar as a political and military hub for the Horde.

Inhabitants and culture: Durotar is primarily inhabited by orcs, with smaller settlements and outposts for allied races and traders. Orc society in the region emphasizes strength, honor, and resilience, with many residents following warrior or shaman traditions. The Horde leadership in Orgrimmar governs Durotar as a frontier province, coordinating defense, governance, and development.

Settlements and points of interest: Orgrimmar is the largest city and the political heart of the Horde within the region. Razor Hill serves as a frontier town and staging point for new arrivals and outposts. The Valley of the Trials, the Orc starting area in the southern part of the region, introduces players and new residents to Durotar’s culture and history.
