Durocs

Durocs are a breed of domestic pig originating in the United States. They are characterized by their distinct reddish-brown coloration, which can range from a light cherry red to a dark mahogany. Its development involved crossing various breeds, including the Red Duroc from New Jersey and the Old Duroc from New York, with other swine types. This crossbreeding aimed to produce a pig that was efficient in converting feed to muscle, hardy, and adaptable to different farming conditions.

Durocs are a popular breed globally, especially in commercial pork production. They are valued for their lean meat, good meat-to-fat ratio, and desirable pork flavor. Their muscularity contributes to high-quality cuts. The breed is also known for its docile temperament, which makes them easier to handle.
