Durchblutungsstörungen, also known as circulatory disorders, refer to conditions where the normal flow of blood through the body is impaired. This can affect arteries, veins, or capillaries, leading to a reduced supply of oxygen and nutrients to tissues and organs. Causes are varied and can include atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), blood clots, inflammation of blood vessels, or external compression.

Symptoms of Durchblutungsstörungen depend on the location and severity of the impairment. In the limbs, common signs include pain, cramping, numbness, or coldness, particularly during physical activity. This is often referred to as peripheral artery disease. When arteries supplying the heart are affected, it can manifest as chest pain (angina). Impaired blood flow to the brain can lead to transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) or strokes, characterized by sudden weakness, difficulty speaking, or vision problems.

Diagnosis typically involves a medical history, physical examination, and specific tests such as Doppler ultrasound, angiography, or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to visualize blood flow and identify blockages. Treatment strategies aim to restore adequate blood flow and prevent complications. These may include lifestyle modifications like diet changes and exercise, medications to manage risk factors such as high blood pressure and cholesterol, or surgical interventions like angioplasty, stenting, or bypass surgery to open blocked vessels. Early detection and management are crucial for preventing serious health consequences.
