Duilian
Duilian, also known as couplets or antithetical couplets, are a traditional form of Chinese poetry. They consist of two lines that are grammatically parallel and semantically related. The structure of a duilian is quite strict, requiring that the number of characters in each line be equal, and that the corresponding characters in each line share the same tone pattern. The first line, called the "upper line" or "tianshanglian," is usually presented first. The second line, known as the "lower line" or "dianshanglian," is a response or counterpart to the first.
The origins of duilian can be traced back to ancient China, with examples found in classical literature.
