Dubbelväggigt refers to a construction or design featuring two distinct layers or walls, separated by a space. This intervening space can be filled with air, insulation material, or be a vacuum. The primary purpose of a double-walled structure is to enhance thermal insulation, provide structural support, or increase durability.

In building construction, double-walled walls, often referred to as cavity walls, help to reduce heat transfer, making buildings more energy-efficient. The cavity can be filled with materials like mineral wool, foam, or simply left as an air gap. This design also aids in moisture management by preventing water penetration and allowing any trapped moisture to evaporate.

In the context of containers, such as bottles or flasks, double-walled designs are commonly used for thermal insulation. For example, a vacuum-insulated flask with double walls keeps hot beverages hot and cold beverages cold for extended periods by minimizing heat conduction and convection. The vacuum between the walls is an excellent insulator, further improving performance.

Other applications include double-walled pipes, which can be used for transporting hazardous materials safely, as the outer wall provides containment in case of a leak from the inner wall. In scientific equipment, double-walled glassware is utilized for controlled heating or cooling reactions.
