Dualstacknätverk, also known as dual-stack networking, refers to the practice of maintaining two separate network stacks within a single device or network. This approach allows for the coexistence of both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, enabling seamless communication between devices that use different versions of the Internet Protocol. Dual-stack networking is crucial in the transition from IPv4 to IPv6, as it ensures compatibility and interoperability between older and newer network technologies.

In a dual-stack network, each device or router is configured to support both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. This dual configuration allows devices to communicate with each other regardless of the protocol version they are using. For example, an IPv4-only device can communicate with an IPv6-only device through a dual-stack router that translates between the two protocols.

The implementation of dual-stack networking involves configuring network interfaces to have both an IPv4 and an IPv6 address. This can be done manually by entering the addresses into the device's settings or automatically through Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) for IPv4 and Stateless Address Autoconfiguration (SLAAC) for IPv6. Additionally, routers and firewalls must be configured to handle traffic for both protocols, ensuring smooth and efficient data transmission.

One of the primary advantages of dual-stack networking is its ability to facilitate a gradual transition to IPv6.
