Dualrow

Dualrow is a term used to describe configurations that arrange components, contacts, or elements in two parallel rows. It is applied in multiple domains to increase connection density, stability, or load capacity, depending on the context.

In electronics, dual-row refers to components such as dual-row headers and sockets, which contain two parallel rows of pins inside a single housing. This arrangement allows a higher pin count within a compact footprint and is common for through-hole and surface-mount variants. Dual-row connectors are available in straight or right-angle formations and often include polarization features to prevent incorrect mating. Pitches frequently seen include 2.54 mm (0.1 in) and finer options such as 2.0 mm or 1.27 mm, suitable for PCB interconnections, mezzanine boards, and development kits.

In mechanical engineering, dual-row describes bearings with two rows of rolling elements, for example dual-row angular contact ball bearings or cylindrical roller bearings. The two-row design increases load capacity and stiffness relative to single-row counterparts, at the expense of larger size and sometimes higher friction, depending on the application.

In displays and lighting, dual-row layouts appear in LED arrays or matrices, where two parallel rows of diodes or modules support higher brightness or density and can simplify wiring or driver configurations.

Design considerations for dualrow configurations include alignment and mating tolerances, insulation and housing compatibility, pitch matching with mating components, thermal and mechanical stress, and cost versus density benefits. The term is usually hyphenated when used as an adjective (dual-row connector, dual-row bearing) and is common in product specifications and engineering documentation.
