Doekwissels are the act of changing sails on a sailing vessel. The term combines doek, meaning sail or cloth, and wissel, change. In practice, a doekwissel involves replacing one sail with another to optimize performance, handle changing wind conditions, or adapt to a new point of sail, such as shifting from a close-hauled course to a broad reach.
