Dlinje

Dlinje is a fictional village and municipality in the highlands of Valoria, a nation in the northern part of the fictional continent of Moravia. The name is believed to derive from a historical term meaning “long line” or “ridge,” reflecting the village’s elongated settlement pattern along a hillside road.

It sits at about 320 meters above sea level in a valley carved by the Dlinje River. The climate is temperate continental with warm summers and cold winters; annual precipitation averages around 700 millimeters. The surrounding land is used for orchards, grain, and mixed forests.

Founded in the 12th century by a guild of masons who settled along a trade route, Dlinje received municipal rights in 1862. The village expanded in the 19th century with a railway spur that operated until mid-20th century. In recent decades it has shifted toward diversified agriculture and small manufacturing.

Population is around 1,100–1,200, with a composition predominantly Valorian and minority communities. The governing body is a nine-member municipal council elected for four-year terms; the head of town is the mayor.

Major economic sectors include agriculture (fruits and cereals), forestry, and light craftsmanship. A weekly market remains central to local life. Transport links consist of a regional road, a limited bus service, and proximity to a rail line 20–30 kilometers away; the closest airport is about 60 kilometers distant.

Local culture centers on traditional crafts and a late-summer festival called Dlinje Days, featuring folk music and a harvest market. Notable sites include the hilltop parish church, the ruins of a medieval fortress, and a museum dedicated to regional history.
