Distributerless is a business strategy that aims to remove traditional distribution intermediaries, such as wholesalers and distributors, from the supply chain so products are sold directly to end customers or directly to retailers through company-controlled channels. The term describes a form of disintermediation focused on the distribution layer of the value chain and is often used in discussions of direct-to-consumer (DTC) models.

While not a formal industry classification, distributerless is used to contrast with distributor-centric models where multiple middlemen handle warehousing, order fulfillment, and channel management. Key features include direct-to-consumer e-commerce, company-owned retail outlets, or direct supplier-to-retailer arrangements, supported by in-house or outsourced logistics, inventory management, and customer support.

Benefits commonly cited include higher gross margins, greater branding control, faster product cycles, and richer customer data. Challenges include the need for significant capital investment in logistics, higher operational complexity, returns handling, and risk if demand forecasts misalign with capacity. It can also reduce access to wholesale networks and complicate international market entry where local distributors are entrenched.

Distributerless strategies have become increasingly common with the rise of online retail and brand-owned stores. They are often part of broader direct-to-consumer initiatives across consumer electronics, fashion, beauty, and other consumer goods, where brands seek closer customer relationships and streamlined fulfillment rather than relying on third-party distributors.
