DisplaySignales

DisplaySignales is a software framework and specification for rendering time-based signals on digital displays. It defines a standardized data model, a rendering engine, and a set of interaction patterns to support consistent visualization across web, desktop, and embedded environments.

The core components include a signal data model that represents multiple channels of time-stamped values along with metadata such as units and labels; a rendering engine capable of composing charts, gauges, and heatmaps from streaming data; and a declarative styling system that enables theming, responsive layouts, and accessibility options. The framework emphasizes real-time updates, efficient data diffing, and predictable rendering behavior across platforms.

Clients integrate DisplaySignales through a lightweight library that ingests streaming data, applies transformations, and delegates rendering to the engine. The protocol supports asynchronous data sources, batching, and back-pressure handling to maintain smooth visuals in high-volume scenarios. Accessibility considerations include keyboard navigation, screen-reader compatibility, and high-contrast theming.

DisplaySignales is designed for interoperability with common data formats and data pipelines, including JSON-based messages and columnar feeds.
