Directorie is a term that can refer to several things, most notably a form of government and a type of clothing. Historically, the most significant use of "Directorie" is in reference to the Directory, the government of France from 1795 to 1799. This executive body consisted of five directors who held significant power during a turbulent period following the Reign of Terror. The Directory aimed to establish a more moderate republic but struggled with internal divisions and external threats. It was eventually overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte in the coup of 18 Brumaire.
