It describes a geometric representation of diligence, where each axis corresponds to a task and a point encodes the share of total effort allocated at a given moment. Origin and meaning: The term is a neologism combining diligence and shape, used in operations research and management science to visualize allocation strategies. It does not have a single formal definition; authors adapt the term to fit their models, constraints, and objective functions, which can lead to variations in its precise interpretation.

Formal aspects: In a setting with n tasks and nonnegative allocation fractions that sum to one, the basic diligenceshape is the n-1 dimensional simplex. Additional constraints—such as minimum effort per task or priority tiers—carve the simplex into subregions. If one adds a penalty for allocation variance, level sets around a preferred distribution can become ellipsoidal, creating a family of shapes that reflect different risk tolerances.
