Diktonius

Diktonius is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Trametaceae. These fungi are typically found growing on decaying wood in tropical and subtropical regions. They are characterized by their sessile, fan-shaped or semicircular fruiting bodies, often referred to as conks or brackets. The pore surface on the underside of the fruiting body is usually smooth or finely toothed, with pore size and color varying among species.

The taxonomic classification of Diktonius has undergone revisions over time. Historically, some species now assigned to Diktonius were previously placed in other genera such as Trametes. Research involving molecular phylogenetic analysis has been instrumental in clarifying the evolutionary relationships and establishing the current genus boundaries for Diktonius.

Species within this genus are saprophytic, playing a role in the decomposition of lignin and cellulose in dead wood. This ecological function contributes to nutrient cycling within forest ecosystems. While generally not considered of significant economic importance, some Diktonius species might be investigated for potential biotechnological applications, although this is not their primary characteristic.
