Diktats

A diktat is a decree or set of commands issued authoritatively, often without consultation or opportunity for discussion. The term typically implies an unfair or arbitrary imposition of will by a person or group in power. It originates from the German word "Diktat," meaning "something dictated."

Diktats are often characterized by their one-sided nature. They are not the result of negotiation, compromise, or democratic process but rather a unilateral pronouncement. This can occur in various contexts, including international relations, political spheres, or even within organizations and families. For example, a peace treaty imposed by a victorious nation upon a defeated one might be described as a diktat. Similarly, a leader who issues directives without soliciting input from their subordinates might be seen as issuing diktats.
