Differentialgleichungs, also known as differential equations, are mathematical equations that relate a function with its derivatives. The order of a differential equation is determined by the highest derivative present in the equation.

Ordinary differential equations (ODEs) involve functions of a single independent variable and their derivatives. For instance, Newton's second law of motion, F = ma, can be expressed as a second-order ODE when acceleration is considered the second derivative of position with respect to time. Partial differential equations (PDEs), on the other hand, involve functions of multiple independent variables and their partial derivatives. Examples of PDEs include the heat equation, which describes how temperature distributes over time and space, and the wave equation, which models the propagation of waves.

Solving differential equations can be challenging, and various analytical and numerical methods exist. Analytical solutions provide an exact mathematical expression for the function, while numerical methods approximate the solution using computational techniques. The behavior of the solutions to differential equations can often reveal important insights into the underlying physical or abstract systems they represent. Understanding and solving differential equations is therefore a crucial skill for scientists and engineers.
