Devnyagil

Devnyagil is a small settlement located in the western part of the province of Gaisla, approximately 45 kilometres east of the provincial capital. It is situated in a valley surrounded by the Kalkik mountain range and is known for its fertile agricultural lands, particularly for the cultivation of wheat and barley. The population of the village is estimated at 1,200 residents, most of whom are engaged in farming and livestock rearing. The local economy is also supported by a modest artisanal leather workshop that has operated for several decades.

Historically, Devnyagil was founded in the late nineteenth century by migrants from the neighboring trade town of Varkalay, who sought to escape urban congestion and pursue a more self-sufficient lifestyle. The name 'Devnyagil' is derived from the regional dialect, meaning “green valley”, a reference to the abundant vegetation that characterizes the area. Over time, the village has maintained a traditional culture, with festivals celebrating harvests and local folklore.

Infrastructure in Devnyagil includes a primary school, a community health post, and a small marketplace that functions on Tuesdays. The settlement is connected to the provincial transport network by a single-lane road, with bus services linking it to Gaisla and other nearby villages. Despite its modest size, Devnyagil is regarded by scholars of rural development as a model of sustainable agricultural practices within the region.
