Devlerei

Devlerei is a fictional region created for use in worldbuilding and storytelling. It encompasses a highland and lowland zone on the northern coast of the world’s continent of Aethra, known for its forests, rivers, and scattered medieval towns.

Geographically, Devlerei covers roughly 60,000 square kilometers, bounded by the Argyn Mountains to the west and the Ildar River valley to the south. The terrain ranges from alpine meadows at high elevations to rolling farmland in the lowlands.

Historically, Devlerei emerged from a loose network of city-states in the early second millennium and became a unified region under a regional council in the 16th century. It later entered a cooperative federation, gaining semi-autonomous status within the United Provinces.

Today, Devlerei is governed by a regional governor and assembly, with responsibilities for land use, education, and infrastructure. The economy centers on sustainable agriculture, dairy products, timber, crafts, and growing ecotourism; hydroelectric power provides a portion of its energy.

Its population is diverse, estimated around one to two million inhabitants who speak Devlerish as the regional lingua franca alongside minority languages. Cultural life emphasizes folk music, wood carving, seasonal festivals, and a tradition of local markets.

Notable sites include the Winter Ridge, the old chapel at Lomar Vale, and the Ruins of Kethar, which attract hikers and historians.
