Detektoritest

Detektoritest, or detector testing, is the systematic evaluation of a detector’s performance against predefined specifications to verify functionality, accuracy, and reliability. The term is used across disciplines that rely on sensors and measurement devices, including particle physics, medical imaging, radiation safety, environmental monitoring, and industrial automation. The goal is to establish traceability of measurements and to ensure devices meet safety and quality requirements before routine use and after maintenance.

Tests typically include planning and specification review, calibration with known reference standards, acceptance testing of new equipment, and ongoing performance characterization. Methods vary by detector type but common elements are establishing response to known stimuli (such as calibrated radiation sources, light, or electrical signals), comparing against reference detectors, and assessing environmental effects such as temperature or humidity.

Key performance metrics often assessed are detection efficiency, energy or timing resolution, linearity, dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio, stability, and spatial or angular response. For medical imaging detectors, phantom-based tests and image quality metrics are used; for radiation detectors, energy spectra and dose-rate measurements may be evaluated. In industrial and environmental settings, tests may focus on sensitivity, selectivity, and robustness under field conditions.

Standards and guidance from international and national bodies—such as ISO, IEC, and national metrology institutes—provide frameworks for detector testing, calibration, and traceability. Documentation typically includes a test plan, results, calibration certificates, and recommendations for maintenance or recalibration intervals.
