Desibelitaso

Desibelitaso is a term used in some theoretical and fictional discussions of acoustics to describe a composite measure of perceived loudness. It is not an official unit in standard acoustics and does not appear in formal regulation or engineering practice. The concept aims to bridge the gap between physical sound pressure levels and the human experience of sound by incorporating additional factors beyond raw decibels.

In a typical description, desibelitaso is defined as a value that combines the traditional decibel level with two weighting components: a psychoacoustic weight and a temporal or duration weight. The psychoacoustic weight represents how the ear’s sensitivity varies with frequency, similar in spirit to weighting curves used in loudness research, while the temporal weight accounts for how loudness is integrated over time. The exact formula and the ranges of the weights are not standardized, and different sources may propose different implementations. In practice, measurements would still rely on a calibrated microphone and a reference sound level, but the reported desibelitaso would be conditioned by the chosen psychoacoustic and time-weighting parameters.

Applications of the concept are largely experimental or creative. It may appear in discussions of film or video game sound design, where designers seek a metric that better corresponds to subjective loudness across scenes. It is also used in thought experiments about how measurement scales relate to perception. Because the value depends on arbitrary weighting choices, desibelitaso is mainly a heuristic rather than a universal standard.
