Descolonização

Descolonização refers to the process by which colonies achieve independence from their colonizing powers. This historical phenomenon primarily occurred in the 20th century, leading to the dissolution of vast colonial empires and the emergence of numerous new nation-states. The motivations behind decolonization were multifaceted, encompassing nationalist aspirations within colonized territories, changing geopolitical landscapes following World War II, and growing international pressure against imperialism.

The methods of achieving independence varied significantly. Some decolonization processes were relatively peaceful, involving negotiations and constitutional transfers of power.
