Demountabiliteeti, also known as demountability, refers to the ability of a structure, product, or system to be dismantled into its constituent parts with minimal damage, enabling reuse, refurbishment, or recycling. It is a key concept in sustainable design and the circular economy, emphasizing the extension of asset life and the reduction of waste.

Applications of demountabiliteeti span architecture, furniture, packaging, consumer electronics, and industrial equipment. In construction, demountable or modular buildings are designed so components can be separated and reassembled at different sites or repurposed for new uses. In furniture and consumer goods, demountable designs facilitate repair, upgrading, or relocation. Packaging and transport systems often rely on modular, reusable components to improve efficiency and reduce material waste.

Design principles include modularity, standardized or compatible connections, reversible joints, clear labeling, and thorough documentation. Design for disassembly (DfD) is a related framework that guides product development toward easier dismantling, material separation, and end-of-life processing. These principles support materials recovery, lifespan extension, and the avoidance of irreversible damage during deconstruction.

Benefits of demountabiliteeti include lower environmental impact through resource conservation, reduced waste, easier maintenance and upgrading, and greater flexibility for building adaptations or relocation. In asset management, it enables asset recycling and cost savings over time. Challenges involve higher initial design and manufacturing costs, meeting safety and building codes, logistics of dismantling large components, and ensuring component compatibility across generations.
