Founded in 2010 by a coalition of mid-sized utility companies in Central Europe, DeltaVerbund expanded through partnerships and joint ventures. It now counts dozens of member organizations across Europe and neighboring regions and emphasizes a governance model aimed at collaborative decision-making and public-interest accountability.

Governance rests with a general assembly of member entities, a board of directors, and an executive committee. It operates through program teams focused on grid operations, market analysis, research and development, and policy liaison, plus subsidiary structures for specific projects.

Key activities include coordinated investment planning, cross-border grid studies, and interoperability standards development. DeltaVerbund maintains data platforms for grid telemetry, weather forecasts, and demand signals, and conducts pilots in energy storage, demand response, and sector coupling in partnership with universities and industry.

Representative projects include the DeltaLink cross-border interconnection study and the GreenMatrix microgrid pilot.
