Delfach

Delfach is a town and municipality in Veloria, a fictional country in the Central Highlands. It lies along the Delf River, about 15 kilometers north of the regional capital. The municipality covers about 40 square kilometers and had a population of around 7,900 in 2022. Delfach functions as an administrative and service hub for the surrounding rural area, with a historic core and a modern residential district.

The origin of the name Delfach is uncertain; local tradition connects it to the river name Delf and to a medieval field word. The landscape features rolling meadows, mixed forests, and small hedgerows. The area has a temperate climate with mild summers and moderate winters.

Delfach was founded in the 12th century as a market town at a crossroad of regional routes. It received town privileges in the late medieval period and developed a guild-based economy centered on trade, textiles, and agriculture. The town endured periods of conflict in the 16th–17th centuries and later modernized with industrialization and the arrival of the railway in the late 19th century.

The local economy is diversified between agriculture—particularly dairy farming and cereal production—and small manufacturing and crafts. Tourism and heritage conservation contribute to the service sector, centered on the historic town center and riverside walks. Delfach is connected by the Velorian Central Line railway and by a network of regional roads; the town hosts a bus depot and a market square.

Delfach hosts an annual summer market and a midsummer festival. Notable landmarks include the ruins of Delfach Castle, a 14th-century church, and a well-preserved medieval street plan in the old town. Local institutions include a primary school, a secondary school campus, and a small hospital/clinic.
