Dekonstrueerimist

Dekonstrueerimist, often translated as deconstruction, is a philosophical and critical approach that questions established meanings and structures within texts, language, and thought. It emerged from the work of Jacques Derrida in the 1960s. Deconstruction challenges the idea of a fixed, stable meaning that can be definitively extracted from a text. Instead, it suggests that language is inherently unstable, full of internal contradictions, and shaped by binary oppositions where one term is often privileged over another.

The process of deconstruction involves closely examining a text to reveal these hidden assumptions, hierarchies, and tensions. Deconstructionists look for moments where the text seems to undermine its own claims, where meanings slip and slide, and where the intended message is complicated or even contradicted by the language used. It is not about destroying a text but about revealing its complex and often paradoxical nature. By doing so, deconstruction aims to show how meanings are constructed rather than simply discovered, and how power structures are embedded within language. It has been applied to literature, philosophy, law, and cultural studies.
